Draft of Coastal Regulation - 2018 and its Strides toward Sustainable Development

Government of India has introduced CRZ Notification in 1991 to regulate such activities and preserve the coastal zones from negative effects. Now, this notification has been amended and revised for a number of times, and the current scenario involves the Draft CRZ Notification, 2018 has been enforced under the approval of Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. The new notification aims to conserve and protect the unique environment of coastal stretches and marine areas along with promoting sustainable development based on scientific principles to deal with human needs and the harmful effects of climatic changes. This paper, thus intends to venture into how the rules and regulations of the new notification guide in obtaining sustainable development and help in preserving the coastal environment.
